Grand National Sweepstake
If you are in the UK, maybe even if you are not, you'll have heard of the Grand National (being raced tomorrow in honour of my birthday this year!) - the most famous UK horse race, and about the one event in the country that even non gamblers will have a punt on. The traditional (well ish) way most people bet is to have an office sweepstake with everyone randomly, or maybe not so randomly, picking a horse, placing a set bet, and then the winner takes the pot of money at the end. Simple.

To make it even more simple though, and pleasingly geeky, Betfair's new sweepstake web site let's you organize your office sweepstake online without all of the crumpled newspapers, dodgy accounting and administration. Nice. You'll have to hurry though as the race is tomorrow, don't worry about being late to the game though as the runners were only announced yesterday meaning we're all in the same boat.

Ever one not to take my own advice my office got all organized this year and we actually drew for our sweepstake yesterday evening (crumpled pieces of paper, etc), although nicely half our prize fund is going to charity (explaining the rather steep bet I was asked for). And which horse did I pick? Well I got "L'Ami", which, with current odds of 20-1, is by no means the worst horse in the race, but is still far from being a favourite. You can wish me luck for a birthday win though :) [subbed by advergamer].
