After a short absence (caused by some techie changes at my web host that no one there told me about) the "Submit A link" feature has returned (see right hand column). Find a good game, or whatever, on the net, fill in the details on the submit form, and it'll email the details straight to me for inclusion on the site. That's the theory at least. In practise what actually happens is I drown under a sea of emails and spam (current inbox size: 4500+ items) and people get upset because I lose their submissions, but Gmail search and I do try our best. Thanks to all the submitters, whether your links get used or not. All you Evil Spam Monkeys on the other hand I do not thank, despite some of your comical efforts.

It's been an age since I posted anything in Lazylaces' Techie Category, but I thought I should share Paint.NET with you, if you weren't aware of it already. People have been telling me about this free piece of software for a while, but it wasn't until I was stuck on a machine without any graphics manipulation software earlier today and I needed to produce a screenshot for Lazylaces that I got round to using it. And it's a beaut. Lots of features for manipulating (or even creating) pictures and saving out into a variety of formats, totally simple to use (it took less than a minute to work out everything I needed to do) and all for free. Great if you are looking for that kind of thing, or maybe next time you are playing one of those puzzle games that requires you to do stuff with image files. It's for XP/Vista only, but that should cover the majority of PC users, and all you Mac-ites are probably using something 5000 times cooler already.

I don't have a new big find for Musical Friday this week, so instead I'm going to play "what did you download or buy most recently". For me it's the very funky "You Know I'm No Good" by Amy Winehouse, how about you? What's new for you?

Possibly some news for puzzle fans, although this teaser site is a bit too cryptic to be sure, Grant writes to tell me of his upcoming game The Black Lodge. My guess is it's a puzzle, since that's what his last games Between Something And Nothing and Maladjusted were, but he does say this one "is a bit different" and the teaser does have an intriguing Twin Peaks vibe. Anyway one to watch out for, I'll post further updates as and when I know more [subbed & created by grant].

Oh yes. My ultimate, and third and final, guilty pleasure for Musical Friday, this is My Definition Of A Boombastic Friday. You're at least tapping your toes, I know you are. Don't resist the urge. Give in, go for it. Dance around your work/school desk. Extra points if you don't tell your colleagues/classmates why you are doing it...

Second guilty musical pleasure for the day it's that song from Shrek that I love to sing along to... maybe it's not total musical quality, but it is perfect to get you into that Friday feeling... Actually, perhaps, the Graeme doth protest too much, as I also like "Walking On The Sun" by Smash Mouth as well. Dammit... my name is Graeme and I'm a Smash Mouth fan... (the first step is admitting it)...

This Lazylaces Musical Friday is one for exposing guilty pleasures (that's guilty musical pleasures before you get carried away...). First up a ridiculous song from Tenacious D, that I love to rock out to, perfect for a Friday, including the classic line: "this is not the greatest song in the world, this is just a tribute". Oh yes. Let's rock. Skip to 3:29 for my favourite morsel from this one. Now it's time to share what you are listening to (but shouldn't be)...

"The First Door" series has proved immensely popular (and some would say immensely difficult) with puzzle fans so those of you who have to buy your hats in extra large to keep your over-sized brains warm will be pleased to hear that the next in the series, The Locked Box, is out soon. I'm sure another cryptic note will arrive in my inbox when it actually starts so I'll let you know more when I can [subbed by The First Door & Allegra~WickedFanOne].

Time for a Musical Friday post... I haven't been listening too much new this week, maybe a bit of Jamie T, but I have had firm lazylaces favourite Arctic Monkeys (skip the first 50sec or so on the video above if you want to get straight to the music) on heavy rotation this week. Drop a note of your favourite listens this week, including a link to some audio if you can, in the comments.

NFTCD is a weird little flash web toy that is a head-on car crash of surrealist sights and sounds, it's fun to play around with, but has a macabre touch. All very strange, but rather nice [subbed by yining]

I love my Last FM account, tracking the songs you listen to, and building charts of favourite tunes, it's all a bit geeky, and yet at the same time deeply satisfying. Just my cup of tea. Anyway if you have an account, think about adding me to your friends list, if you don't have an account think about getting one (a "basic" account has a stack of features and is free), and either way check out my personal "radio station" using their nice new flash gizmo thingy. It's not an exact science, I'm not even sure what some of the songs in there are, but on the whole it contains a lot of stuff I listen to, so it's perfect for a Lazylaces Musical Friday song sharing experience.
