Tomacco

Where The Simpsons lead science follows with the invention of the Tomacco plant. Tomacco is a combination tomato-tobacco plant, even though it tastes foul and has a brown, gooey center, Springfield becomes addicted to the fruit after one bite, and Homer gets rich. Alternatively it makes for a nicotine rich tomato. This is the bizarre edge of real science-fiction.

Big Bang Theory

Remember, remember the 5th of November. For some bizarre reason I still can't fully fathom, despite almost 30 years from birth as a Brit, Britain celebrates today that 400 years ago somebody tried to blow up the parliament building. Surely countries get invaded for this kind of thing these days?

Anyways...auntie beeb's topical report for today reveals that Mr Fawkes' expolsive planning was a little OTT and had it suceeded it would have wiped out most of downtown Westminister, including if my rough guess on the historic map is right, the site of Waterloo station. Take that South West Trains you b**tards. Fortunately (?) my office along the river at Southwark would have remained untouched had things worked out (NB. I am aware that both Waterloo station and my office did not exisit in 1605).

Drew Darko

I put Drew Barrymore in at number 3 in my top 3 candidates for Mrs Lazylaces a while back but I've now finally seen Donnie Darko. Firstly let me say all the hype and tributes I've seen for the film were well deserved. Deliciously entertaining and creepy. What is more Miss Barrymore is almost more appealing than she was in The Wedding Singer whch I didn't think was possible. I think that means Minnie has been bumped off the number 2 spot (still a lot of work to do to catch Fiona).
