:I finished level 50 with all 40 lives. I only used 4 tack towers, 1 super monkey, and a bunch of monkeys with the darts that pop 2 at a time.
The key of it is where you place the first monkeys when you start.

:1st monkey near 2nd square of where the middle monkey is shown in the screenshot, works well, you need more, anyway. Cover 3 gray squares and you can go from there easily.

:my record (and this was while I was submitting this no less) was round 31, and the only type of tower I didn't get was the super monkey tower. as far as strategy when placing towers in relation to each other, place cannon towers a bit ahead of the ice towers. also, the towers that aim for specific bloons will aim for the bloon that is furthest down the path. this means that you could have one tower hitting bloons at one point on the road and then, if one of them shows up later down the road and within range of that tower, that tower will switch targets to that one.

:aww shoot got to 42 and died....i used a ton of highest modified darts, two cannons, one ice, one super monkey, and 3 tacks. which i sold for the super monkey...

:ok...I've tried all day (off and on) and the only way I won was by taking Zoda-Z's advice...just use a TON of dart towers with a few tack towers at the u-bends. The ice towers and bombs are bollocks. I could have done without the super-monkey dude, too...most of his darts went flying off anyway. THAT'S the only way to win...dart towers. Lots of them. On every free space you can find. It's brilliant.

:2,300 money, 40 lives and I beat the game. I also had 4 super monkeys, 3 cannons (big explosions), and a score of dart towers all with piercing darts. I rock!

My advice is:
1. don't really bother with cannons and the ice bombs. be prepared to sell them for supermonkeys.
2. about half way through you need to place something fast at the entrance to start stripping the black and white bloons down ASAP into yellows and greens. put the tower in the top left area so it can't turn around and get distracted by other bloons

:Little FYI - if you play this on www.gameshot.org - they have a slightly different version - the Tack Towers cost lest to buy and upgrade. It makes the first few levels much easier! :) Made it through all 50 levels with 34 lives left! I won't stop until I finish with all 40 lives in tack!!!! :)

:Ice towers are over-rated....did not buy any ....try placing 6 tack towers right in the beginning "n" shape of the board....
Wish the game went past round 50, which means I'm once again anxious for the next baloons/monkey game release.

PS - was there a reason my Tac towers varied between $400 and $550 ?

:i got as far as round 50 with....3 super monkeys, 2 tack towers... and 12 regular monkeys... somewhere in the middle i had a cannon but later got rid of it. i never used the freezing towers i found that earlier times i played it really didn't seem to make a big difference. mission is to get past level 50... dang it lol

Placement of the first 2-3 monkeys are paramount. Place the first monkey at the middle top so that it covers squares to both the left and the right (so you can dart balloons coming and leaving the map). Place a second monkey down at the middle bottom so that his range hits them coming down the first long column on the left, bottom and some squares to the right.
This should get you past several levels where you can be able to upgrade them and add more monkeys and tack towers.
Watch your placement of any dart or tack tower, count the blocks that they cover and go for the highest block count you can manage. It's also very good to place them so that they cover more than just one area.
Love this game! Even hubby couldn't resist playing :D
