Lazylaces Logo Competition
I've just done some work to update the blue stylesheet version of this site - you can switch between the site stylesheets at any time by using the red and blue squares at the bottom of the righthand column (or use the hyperlinks I've just written out). Anyway, that's not my point. While I was doing the work I got to thinking that it's about time I updated the lazylaces logo...

The original, and still in use, logo was created when I took an image from the results of a google image search for "laces" and then had some kind of artistic accident with it in Paint Shop which I still don't fully understand. Anyway it's meant to show some shoes tied in a lazy fashion - I have no idea if it succeeds - I stopped thinking about it about 3 years ago. What I'd like to do is replace it now, and if someone with more artistic ability than me can help, all the better, so in that vein I propose a lazylaces logo competition... here are the details (which I am not making up as I go along - honest):

Prize
The creator of the best entry will receive a token to the value of $30 for Amazon.com (or the nearest GBP equivalent for Amazon.co.uk). I'm afraid my budget won't stretch any further. In addition if I love the entry enough it will become the new logo for the site. All other reasonable, and probably all awful, entries will be featured on the site with a credit.

Guidelines

  • The logo should either be, or be able to fit within, a banner 630 x 80.
  • In GIF or JPG format, with as small a file size as possible.
  • It would be nice, but not essential, if the words "lazy" and "laces" were somehow represented.
Rules
  • The Closing Date is 28th Dec 2005 at 09:00GMT.
  • Artwork may be altered by me for use on this site.
  • All submitted artwork may be distributed and used by lazylaces.com free of charge.
  • Graeme's decision is final.
Ok. That's it I think. Hopefully someone comes up with something cool, otherwise the new year will see me having a painful session with Paint Shop. I'm sure I'll do an update before the closing date so look out for that [idea from a comment by Oxyacetylene].

Well, just for tradition of the concept, FIRST!! Too bad I don't have any ideas, I'm kind of shot for the night, too busy with my "job" (which really doesn't require too much, but I've been putting way too much work into it).

How about copyrights? If I use an image found on the net, would that be ok? Or is that getting me or you into any trouble and I would have to take photos myself and/or create images?!

You didnt answer Sweetcorn's question:

"If I use an image found on the net, would that be ok? Or is that getting me or you into any trouble and I would have to take photos myself and/or create images?!"

It is my question also.

If you use an image from the net, note down the details of where it's from and include them with the entry.

i consider myself artistic! of course painting, and music are different from web design -well slightly. I would love to enter, but two questions:
How do you make it, dumb question I quess... but like can you use photopshop, or even Paint or something, or do you need a special program?
and two, where do we send it to?

I'm a 'digital artist', but I am not big on ideas D:
That means I will probably submit a dozen half decent entries and maybe one good one.

As for the matter of how one ties their shoes, I tie them as best I can, but I only tie them about 3 times a year, to tell the truth. s:

is there anyway us lot can see dem?

Comment 30, Sunday, December 11th 2005 08:54:00 AM

Tafkam

:
i'm an expert on this subject, since i actually HAVE a pair of shoes that are tied lazy-laces (learnt it from my brother who's too cool to bother with details), and the sad fact is that the current logo, GORGEOUS THOUGH IT IS, is not in fact an example of lazy laces.
but (as i thought when i first saw it) maybe that makes it all the more appropriate.
ooh! irony!

Comment 31, Sunday, December 11th 2005 04:33:00 PM

Graeme

:
Tafkam: You could take a picture of the shoes and send it to me. If I put it on-line perhaps someone then could use it as part of the banner.....

Thanks for the mention Graeme. Stationarys' entry made me think of an idea I had of getting a picture of a corset and Photoshopping it onto a *ahem* very fat person - in other words the laces on the corset are too lazy to hold in all the persons' fat, does that even make sense..?
Anyway, i wasn't sure if you would want a really detailed logo cos of downloading times and all that - if you wanna see it I'll try and come up with something.

Eh, mine are more just designs, as I can redraw/manipulate the colors, and you probably can too, right? And if not, well, like I said, I can. :|

I went for simple, I guess, since I like simple more than loads of crap. It also goes with the theme or laziness, eh?

Anyways, if you guys don't know about css files, you can use the eyedropper tool to find the exact color of anything/everything.

thankya very much [Graeme].
I can't wait to get started:
but...one more thing, I was wondering if you can use a website editor (if you ever heard of Myspace.com, or Xanga.com..., those web-blog things) well anyway, u can customize them by using a website editor, which changes the colors and borders, tables, etc.

Well, I was thinking about doing something like that (make a 'sample' web-blog and change the colors) - but I don't know if you want to go as far as changing some of the colors of the borders, text, links, etc.; and I rather not go and take the trouble of doing that, (which would also waste your and my time) if it made no sense in doing...

---whoa! i just used a chiasmus : I rather not do that, if there's no sense in doing; sorry, had to mention that, I always wondered when someone would use that?!?----
