Room
You wake up in a strange room, with no food or water, and you need to escape???? Not the most original plot in the world of the point'n'click game (although some would argue this is the only plot they have), and not the most original name either. The Room? I'd have hated to have been at the endless brain-storming sessions where they came up with that one: "Fu*k it. Lets just call in 'The Room' and get down the pub". On second thoughts perhaps I wouldn't have hated it so much...

Anyway my ranting aside, which is probably brought on more by a lack of sleep, and excess of stress this week, more than anything else, this seems to be rather a good game, and after a short playing session it has me stumped, which is always a good sign.

I have in my possession a morse code crib sheet, an un-useful penknife, a skull, a light-bulb, a shiny thing I think is a water-bottle, and a Chinese book. I also think I need to do something with the wooden board with the switch and the twisty things in the picture, but lord knows what. Any ideas my game-addicted friends?

As usual hints, tips, questions & rants in the comments for this post. [game by nnesoft].

Did anyone else notice the cabinets beneath where the skull is found look like they have morse code on them? Damned if I knew the significance, though.

I think it says D, D/B (not sure), E, W, W, L on the cabinets, but it doesn't spell any word in english... I'm not sure what it means either.

Thanks for the help graeme!

Hey, first time posting here. The link above, if you search for "linsnail" or "room" at the upper right hand corner and read the comments, there's the whole walkthrough there. Just to warn you guys, even with the walkthrough, this game doesn't really make much sense as to logically thinking out the solution. The people at nordinho.com were very unsatisfied as well.

Doh! I look at nordinho all the time, but didn't think to check.

Yeah I got the morse code stuff but it's a bit too fuzzy to be sure what the letters are. And what I'm supposed to do with them anyway. Anybody?

And what are the moving tile things in the picture all about?

Done it now but only with the help at nordinho - it was all fairly obtuse stuff - thumbs down.

Buji: This game gets a big thumbs down from me now that I've completed it. It's nigh on impossible without a walkthru with no real understandable logic. That said I know you will want to complete it now you've started it so here's a cut'n'paste of one of the walkthrus from <a href="http://www.nordinho.com/article.php?story=20040915112747941&query=linsnail">nordinho</a>:

1.go to your left once by clicking the left key on screen click on the top drawer on the desk and then click the bottle.

2. the middle drawer is locked for now. there is nothing in the bottom drawer either. scroll your your mouse over the books on the top of the desk until you find a chinese book. now click the top of the bin to collect a morse code sheet.

3. go right until you see a cupboard go towards it, ignore the bottom drawers for now, instead click the top right one and collect the top skull. for the stupid people out there you have to click the handle of the cupboard to open it.

4. keep going right until you are in front of the bed, click in between the pillows to collect a pen knife, now click the inside of the light to get a bulb. now go back to the cupboard.

5. click on the flat surface of the cupboard to go to a screen with a button and 6 spaces place your items in like this. top left: skull top middle: book bottom left:bottle bottom middle: knife and bottom right:bulb now there should be one space empty the top right one so press the yellow button and your old items will go and you get a key.

6.use the key one the locked middle drawer on the desk to get a strange item. go right and click the painting now click the little building at the bottom of it, 4 shapes that you can turn appear. move them like this top left 5 top right 7 bottom left 7 bottom right 4 now click the strange item you picked up earlier. you will get a decoder and a golf ball with 1000 on it.

7. got to the door and click the middle of it the decoder will appear now look at the morse code sheet letters K and G now spell them in morse code with decoder to escape.

Thank you Graeme. I wouldn't have worked that out in a million years. Sad thing is it would have been ok if a bit of logic had been added. It's just not possible to work out the rotation sequence in the picture, or the places to put the items (unless I'm missing something) and there must be thousands of possible combinations. I give it 2 out of 10 just because it's a P 'n' C but minus 10 million for workaoutability. (Ok that's not a real word, but you know what I mean.)

how can a person know that the morse code is k and g...hello! no logic people!

but thx for the walkthru..whomever you are!
:)

Thanks for the walkthrough. No way could i have escaped without it. Buji is right - a little logic would have gone a long way.

Comment 33, Tuesday, October 19th 2004 08:18:00 PM

Graham

:
supposedly k for 1000, and g for golf.. but i didn't get it either. also the object placing puzzle... some of the mose code on the drawers bares relation to the object pattern... lL for lamp and B for book. though i thought the b looked more like d in morse code. never mind... frankly that was the worst point and click i have ever played.

Graeme still spells his name wrong... Graham forever!

Comment 34, Tuesday, October 26th 2004 10:57:00 PM

Graeme

:
Graham - You are quite clearly all wrong. Graeme is the only correct way of spelling the name.

I finally beat it, but it took me forever to figure out the puzzles behind it. The mastermind behind this forgot that 1.) most people can't speak morse code, 2.) acronyms in mirrored form aren't very common, 3.) no one keeps a penknife inside his/her pillowcase, and 4.) the metric system isn't used all over the world. Most people can't get past all of that. It did take me like forever to figure this out though, although I admit that I used the Tab button trick to find where to get the lightbulb. This game was okay, if you can get past all the misconceptions.
