Exmortis
First things first - don't even bother clicking on this game until it's dark in whatever time-zone you're in. Also I recommend waiting until you're on your own, and preferably you should crank the sound up too. Having spare underpants to hand is also advisable if you are of a nervous disposition. That's the prerequisites over and done with on with the game...

I was a bit dubious at first whether exmortis even was a point'n'click game, it seemed like a simple, if very spooky, flash toy with no real purpose, until I found the locked safe and figured there must be something more going on than I realised at first. Even now (I haven't completed the game), I'm not totally sure what the eventual goal is, but a little point'n'click experience has taught me that it's almost certainly to escape the house (express solution: don't enter the house at the begining and walk away while you can!).

So far I've reached the library (pictured) and figured out that I need to collect some symbols - I don't think I have them all. Post hints, and ask for help, in the comments to this post, but for now I'm off to bed (to have nightmares) and I'll be trying to complete this one in the morning. [hosted at newgrounds].

PS. Ultra-simple first hurdle hint: click 'play this game' on the newgrounds page to play this game!

While I'm thinking about it another thing to watch in the dark is one of my favourite flash animations - The Tramping Ground. It's a spooky midweek the week at lazylaces.

This game is definately creepy. It's a lot like Found Lost, which is also hosted at new grounds.

I've gotten pretty far, and can say that I'm pretty sure you're right about collecting symbols. I can help anyone up to as far as I got before I got too frustrated. Good game though. Really nice.

I was holding out on posting found-lost until I had time to complete a bit more - it will be posted at some point though. Cheers Kimothy.

What do you do with the books in the library?

Played this last week so if any one needs help, I'll be glad to share.
Moj, there are two sets of books in the library you can fool with. One is a diary that once read allows you to access Gwen's bedroom. The other is a set of encyclopedias that you use as a key to two of your symbols, just like the clock face.

Hey, it's no real trouble playing the damn thing, it's living with it after you've completed it! A helluva lot harder and scarier than anything else I've seen so far.

In case you want a break from Teh Fear of Exmortis, may I recommend this alternative film-noir-esque point and click "A Case Of The Crabs"

how do you arrange the symbols at the end?

Comment 15, Thursday, September 9th 2004 12:12:00 AM

Anita

:
Did you:
1. Look at the picture of the pentagram in the hallway?
2. Look at the clock face and the encyclopedias for three of the symbols?
3. Figured out whose name your spelling?
Hint: upside down and mirrored

Creeeepy! I'm not easily creeped out but I had to walk away from this one a few times to get my mind on real life for a moment. There are at least 3 different endings...

Graeme: Sorry about the repost, but I thought it neccessary under the circumstances...

I've only managed to play through two endings...unless you can call the result of the interaction between a silver and sharp object and your player an ending ;)

For anyone who wants to know, I emailed the guy who made this Flash animation via an email contact on Newgrounds to say that I like it and that he's managed to spawn a bit of a cult game. He's pleased that so many people like it and that he's looking to releasing his next Flash game (no details though) in the near future on Newgrounds.com - if it's anything as good as the quality of this one, no matter what the plot is, we'll be in for a treat :)

BTW - just so you all know that I'm not totally lazy I can let you know that I've been working on a redesign for the site (using my new X40 and daily train commute to good effect).

The new look (at least currently) will be a combo of red, black and white with reorganised menus and a new logo. I'm also scripting it so that you can choose between the new look and the old (blue) style, or any other designs I come up with in the future.

The current 'blue' design has served me well, and I'm still quite attached to it, but it's definately time for a change. You kind of get bored looking at the same thing all the time. Anyway watch this space for the new look, at the current rate of progress it'll probably be on-line quite soon.

How do I OPEN the cellar door? I found the symbols...but how do you get it opened??

Comment 32, Saturday, September 11th 2004 09:06:00 AM

Anita

:
Jon: I had the same problem the first time I played. Grab the axe again and hack back into the tunnels. Go to the second tunnel screen and click along the left wall about 1/2 to 2/3 the way down there is a door.
Wow: Turn up the brightness on your comp. Your gonna need it.
Danisaur: Make sure you have gone through all three of the books, and have clicked on all four of the symbols. Three of the symbols have got to appear in thier own little screens first. Just to be on the safe side, make sure you find all clickable areas. Oh, and visit Gwens bedroom as well.
Hope that helps everybody.

Here is a tip that can be used with most point'n'click games:

When in doubt as to whether or not you have clicked all that is clickable......Hit the 'Tab' key. Each time you hit it it will highlight the various places you can click on each screen. This is especially helpful in 'dark' games such as this one.

Good Luck!

I just love a game that makes me have to post "Don't forget to check beside the severed arm!".

Ben Leffler

:
Hi guys... Ben here (creater of Exmortis)... responding to Southern's news about the next game. It's not a sequel to Exmortis, but a sci-fi horror in the same point-n-click genre' of flash games... It's current working title is "Anomaly".

At the current pace of creation, it won't be available until late-October/early-November... but there will be significant improvements over the Exmortis in various areas. The only problem I am going to have is transferring the melancholy atmosphere of Exmortis to this game. Fingers crossed that I can pull it off!

But so-far-so-good... Going on the first 5 scenes (which I have completed as of yesterday) it's gonna scare the bejezus out of people! Fans of Aliens & Event Horizon (even though Event Horizon could have been SOOO much better) will get a chill out of this one.

For those of you who aren't sci-fi horror fans and are keen to get back in to the story of Exmortis, I am currently writing the story for a prequel to the game where the player will take the role of Xavier Rehayem in the 19th century... and following that a sequel to Exmortis, and maybe Anomaly (depending on the story's success)

Anyway, cheers to all who enjoyed Exmortis... I hope you like my next one... :)

Ben Leffler.

Ben: First of all thanks for such a great game! You're responsible for several outbreaks of (enjoyable) goose-bumps. Secondly thanks for taking the time to drop by and update us on the (eagerly awaited) next game. Do you have a mailing list for it's release? If so please sign me up (address at bottom of page) so I can post here asap.

Thanks once again for the excellent work.

I'm really confused here. So far I have collected a number of sumbols, but I don't understand how to use them with the encyclopedias...
1) Microwave
2) Attic
3) Safe
4) Clock Face
5) Severed Arm
6) Pentagram Picture

Which ones are valid? Only ones written in blood? And when I get to the encyclopedias, nothing happens when I click on them - is it a visual clue or an 'active' clue?

Any thoughts/hints would be much appreciated!
