Yeah, I got there too, but stuck also. I guess the three numerical codes are the hints:

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
the one you got with lights off:
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
840
the one you get by cleaning the wall:
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
762
and the one you get by soaking the kerchief:
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
195
It would be straightforward if the digits of these numbers were 1-9, but they aren't: there's no 3 and there's a 0. Even then you could get it two ways: 0-9 (leaving out 3) and 1-9 assuming 0=3 (typo or some twisted logic) - but these don't work.

I hope there's a logical solution to this, because I liked the game so far and would hate to see it ruined.

Just realized:

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
the ornaments of the left side and middle pictures don't exactly match the little tiles you're supposed to insert left of the green buttons on the doce-box: while there are 3 "strands" on the image on the wall, there are only two on the small tile. Also, only jalf of the ornaments of the middle image on the wall is seen on the small tile.
And, of course, the background colors don't seem to match perfectly, either...

OK, just to think "aloud":

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
you may notice that the two wondows between the three images aren't the same: one has 4 panes, the other has 2. Thinking outside the box (or fram here...), the 4-pane-one can be seen as a plus (+), the 2 pane one as a minus (-). Now, associating the numbers to the images and applying these two operations to them, you get
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
840+762-195 - and that gives us 1407.

What to do with it is another good question...

Oh, man... That's really the solution! What I wrote in my previous comment is the solution. You only have to

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
press the four green buttons corresponding the digits in 1407

and the box is open.

For the box:

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
I don't understand how the 9 green boxes correspond to the numbers 1,4,0 and 7. I've tried pretty much every combination, with sequences 0-8 with the 0 beginning in all 4 corners, but alas, it would not open

Lefort,
did you find the

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
three 3-digit numbers

that relate to the three symbols you find left of the thre rows of green buttons?

Ooooo....thanks BioLarzen. That last bit with how to know which buttons to push was sneaky. Nice job. =)
