Great Dane: I think the description/hints actually made it sound more complicated than it actually turned out to be. Ignore them and just look at each line of letters.
If you need more help, see below. Also, I found zooming made ut easier,

For one of the letter puzzles, look at each line and notice something that happens in each line. Need more help? One letter is repeated 3 times in a line - that's the letter you want.
For other letter puzzle - most letters are upside down and backwards. However there is one letter in each line that appears correctly. That's your letter.
