characters walking by and I hit the buttons below in their color order
and got another card, but no X, and the CD doesn't come out again. No headway with the screen with the smiling face, either.
BTW, the tab key is your friend, a feature sadly missing in most games these days.

:Okay, I had to look at the walkthrough video to figure out how to make the screen with the X show up, and I still don't get how you'd know that. Can someone explain it to me?

:Anticon, it was very common sense. The girl on the wall smiled if you hit the buttons in the right order. Once you hit a button out of order, she frowned. I just used trial and error to find the correct sequence.
