Maybe it's so obvious for you, but for the balls' order I think that the picture has some things to say, too. These red and blue drawings...

:So brick piece has a blue line w/ 4 vertices and a red line w/ 3. This is the same number of ball slots on the door and the same colors as the "gas" and "crow" on the painting.
But I don't know how to put the two things together to make something meaningful...

Have you tried all the balls with keys? Maybe you missed one? If you have six, you should have a key to open that one.
