Sleuth: Shades Of Mystery (Beta)
Sleuth: Shades Of Mystery (Beta) is the latest incarnation (currently in beta) of the text based game Sleuth. The new game has added some point'n'click elements, but there's still a lot of reading (which I know isn't everyone's cup of tea) involved in this murder mystery. You have to "create a detective" to play, which I guess is sort of like registering, but you don't have to leave an email address (it's optional) which should please those of you phobic about registering for anything [subbed by Kate].

I played the old fashion sleuth and that was easy enough using a spreadsheet but this is now nicer and more compliacated, I hope it will sitll be free once it is live as it was before (you could pay for mor eocntents but really there was no need).

I'm the creator of this game.

Yep tweetiti, you'll be able to continue to play for free after launch. Hopefully some people will get addicted enough to register, but we're committed to continuing to provide a good experience to non-paying players :)

If we've used up all our intimidation how do we get the people to talk.

Um, I can't register. I create a new detective and It just directs me to login for returning members. Am I missing something?

I'm collecting evidence all over the place in my first real case, but it only shows the crime scene clues in my case file. When I go to the various people to get help with the handwriting samples I've collected, for example, the game doesn't seem to recognize that I have these other clues. Any thoughts? If I can't figure this out I don't think I'll be able to finish the case. Do I have to move some clues around within the case file?

Other than the pissy navigation (where's my Dramamine?) and the confusing skill points integration, this is a great game. A bit repetitive, but I enjoy it.

i dislike the characters in the game... all of them like to clam up... if not, they will be asking for bribes... and mind you...

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)

better to ask suspects of motives and those waiter/bartender/nurse abt where the person stays...
now i'm unable to accuse coz i'm unable to state the motive of the suspect and i've run out of charms and moolah...

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)

shld give ppl a chance to earn other money...
now i've got the key of someone but i dunno where he stays... =((

I haven't played much of the game, but here is feedback for the game author:

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)

It's a bit confusing having all the locations available at once... could they be revealed as you need them?

There is no such time as "12:00 AM" - it's either "12 noon" or "12 midnight". "AM" means "before noon", and "PM" means "after noon", therefore "12:00 AM" and "12:00 PM" both mean "midnight".

There is no such word as "tobacconeer" - I think you mean "tobacconist".

Comment 24, Monday, February 25th 2008 07:57:02 AM

Theidiotcircusboy

:
Everybody knows "12:00 AM" is midnight and "12:00 noon" is... noon (duh). Technically or not. ;)

Biggest thing I dislike is the way the ppl "clam up" so damn fast, hehe.

I can't even find the "tobacconeer" but, I bet he'll clam up pretty damn quick. :D

Good game for the most part.

I have been playing this game for a couple days now in fact I submitted it. Now when I go to log in it says that the detective does not exsit or that the password is wrong. I tried to get the system to e-mail me my password but it says that the decitive does not exist. :-( very sad

Meme2

Kate, your detective doesn't exist as the game was reset (because the earlier version was a Beta). You need to create a new detective to start playing again.

Ben; this is a great game but I doubt anyone will subscribe to get more mysteries per day. I can simply create multiple characters for more daily games and combine them into an agency. You can deter this by using cookies to an extent.

The help info is good but it would be nice to know who we can learn the various skills from - I want to be more charming :)

i wasted two "successful" charms on natalie Minnow, who wouldn't even answer the questions afterwards. wtf

the intimidation, charm and bribe are rather ridiculously introduced. mostly they lead to nothing. overall a good mystery though

I keep having people clam up and my moolah isn't enough to buy the keys.

I just need one more key! Not enough charm either.
