Musical Friday is making a sneak Tuesday Wednesday appearance today simply because I love Hey There Delilah by the Plain White T's and I actually heard it on the radio today here in the UK for the first time after the beautiful Kaya switched me on to it last week after it got a lot of airplay on WRNR (Annapolis area). I'm not sure why the song is picking up airplay now, as it seems it was first released an age ago, but I'm not going to stress myself looking for answers (laziness is so cool sometimes) and I'm just going to just enjoy chilling out & listening to it. Feel free to post me a comment about how you were listening to it back in '05, and how I'm so behind the times, though: I'll be bothered, really I will. For the rest of you, turn up the volume and enjoy.

And while I'm breaking my own Friday rule (I'm such a rebel) I'll share with you that I risked the UK Hype this week and downloaded Kate Nash's new album and was more than pleasantly surprised. Her current UK chart hit, Foundations, although not bad, is far from the best track on the album (imho) and it was a great buy. My favourite track is, suitably, "The Nicest Thing":

That's all for now. Time allowing, and if I manage to get the day right, Musical Friday will actually return on Friday...

If you like this kind of stuff try my friend's band, camera obscura. They aren't that well known in the uk, but they're getting more recognition these days. The songs Happy New Year, or anything off of biggest bluest hi-fi are good.

This song is beautiful, and it really explains how it is to be far from someone you love.

Haha, Graeme.

What a coincidence, I've been recently listening to this song too. When I sent it to my boyfriend he told me how it's been out a while ago, but he still appreciated it. But just to let you know, you're not the only one behind bud.

I love this song! Graeme, the station I usually listen to here in the USA gave the same info that it is actually an old song, just never released before (or at least, the past month is the first time it has recieved any play on the radio that I could tell). The DJ had no clue why they delayed the release, either.

Oh my god. This song is sooo annoying now. They play it once an hour on our local "alternative" station. Enjoy while it lasts.

This song is so awesome! Here's the lyrics!

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
Hey there Delilah
What's it like in New York City?
I'm a thousand miles away
But girl tonight you look so pretty
Yes you do
Times Square can't shine as bright as you
I swear it's true

Hey there Delilah
Don't you worry about the distance
I'm right there if you get lonely
Give this song another listen
Close your eyes
Listen to my voice it's my disguise
I'm by your side

Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
What you do to me

Hey there Delilah
I know times are getting hard
But just believe me girl
Someday I'll pay the bills with this guitar
We'll have it good
We'll have the life we knew we would
My word is good

Hey there Delilah
I've got so much left to say
If every simple song I wrote to you
Would take your breath away
I'd write it all
Even more in love with me you'd fall
We'd have it all

Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me

A thousand miles seems pretty far
But they've got planes and trains and cars
I'd walk to you if I had no other way
Our friends would all make fun of us
and we'll just laugh along because we know
That none of them have felt this way
Delilah I can promise you
That by the time we get through
The world will never ever be the same
And you're to blame

Hey there Delilah
You be good and don't you miss me
Two more years and you'll be done with school
And I'll be making history like I do
You'll know it's all because of you
We can do whatever we want to
Hey there Delilah here's to you
This ones for you

Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
What you do to me.

I'm so happy that one of my favorite songs (since '06, not '05) has made it onto Lazylaces. 'Hey There Delilah' is a beautiful song.

I was hanging out at my friends house the other day when he says to me, "Do you want to hear the most emo song ever?" I told him I did and he showed my the music video on YouTube. The first four lines made me laugh.
