The Locked Box
Prepare to exercise your brain, The Locked Box is here, the latest in The First Door Series. And as well as what I have no doubt are mind twisting puzzles, this one incorporates some nice flash sights and sounds too - it really does look great and I can't wait to try out some of what effectively appear to be mini (almost point'n'click) games spread around the desktop that is the playing surface. Anyway before I head off to play I'll hand over to the mysterious First Door for their intro:

Things began again at midnight. Something different needs to be solved; something new needs to be opened. This time it is not a door, but a box. After the last quest, the path was severed; the trail destroyed and left dangling. Without a path to follow, the quest has changed, the quest has become about finding the next step. Discover the secret projects The First Door was working on and hope that he has left us a clue about what to do next. Go to his hiding place, he has left you a message. Will you listen once again?

Ok then... Has anyone tried "beside but not above oneself"? I thought I had this, figuring that the incomplete colour circles go in the bottom corners and that no number could appear in the same column twice and puzzling from there. However I'm almost there when i realise that there are six "2" squares meaning my theory won't work. Damn. Any ideas while I puzzle (crosses fingers that the old "got it as soon as I posted" theory works).

If you are looking for hints on the other two quests, I'd go look at the comments for them! They are full of hints and nudges to help you along with The First Door and The Second Door.

Good luck everyone.

I've done the clock puzzle. Anyone got any ideas for the one with the 8 circular buttons?

Comment 10, Saturday, April 28th 2007 12:00:11 PM

Jazz

:
Archie how did you do the clock puzzle it's really stumping me!, and everytime I click on the keypad thingy I go to a different page!

Comment 11, Saturday, April 28th 2007 12:07:56 PM

Archibald

:
Jazz, for the clock thing

HINT: (click box to highlight/fade)
it's based on a rubik's clock, point them all to 12
.

Comment 12, Saturday, April 28th 2007 12:09:36 PM

Mio

:
I've done the clock too (without help I might add).

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
By clicking the red buttons in the middle you can control which big cogs turn. The simply use diferent combinations of locking and unlocking cogs to get the hands pointing in the same direction. When thy are all in the same direction, open up all the cogs and point them to 12 o'clock.

Also stuck on the blue buttons. I thought you had to press them all in the right order, but I'm not so sure now. I thought I had the order for a couple of them done, but then next time round it didn't work.

:
That's where I'm at Mio. There doesn't seem to be any logic to it. Help!

Comment 14, Saturday, April 28th 2007 12:17:46 PM

Mio

:
I've just noticed that on the blue buttons puzzle, the shapes behind the door keep changing order. That has got to have something to do with it.

Comment 15, Saturday, April 28th 2007 12:20:34 PM

Archibald

:
Yep. And sometimes you get lucky and the button clunks and doesn't change the order. The order of the symbols must tell us which button to press next.

Comment 16, Saturday, April 28th 2007 12:22:19 PM

Archibald

:
The buttons are laid out a little like the keys on a keyboard. Maybe that has something to do with it. I can't match the symbols with any letters though.

trial, error and help from here! I have managed the clock, now stuck like the rest, blue buttons,

did I say cute? Now I'm just frustrated. I too figured out the clock puzzle, though the direction at first had me wondering. For some reason I'd turned them down at first. Now I'm trying to do that glowing blue thingie above the first screen.

Comment 21, Saturday, April 28th 2007 12:38:02 PM

Jazz

:
glowing blue thingy NetMom?? haven't come across that! I am still working out the box with the buttons!

Comment 22, Saturday, April 28th 2007 12:42:22 PM

NetMom

:
it's more random clicking, to me.

Archibald, what was the clue for the buttons?

Comment 23, Saturday, April 28th 2007 12:46:13 PM

Archibald

:
For the buttons:

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
You need to figure out which button types which symbol by trial and error and then type them in in order
.

Comment 24, Saturday, April 28th 2007 12:52:05 PM

NetMom

:

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
So if I keep hitting one button, a particular symbol will always be in the pattern? And by working at it, I'll find the symbol for each button, correct?

Comment 25, Saturday, April 28th 2007 12:55:57 PM

Archibald

:
That's the stuff. Good luck.

Jazz, move up or down from the radio screen

Comment 29, Saturday, April 28th 2007 01:08:44 PM

Mio

:
I think I may have done the number puzzle (the numbers on the pieces of paper, like a jigsaw). I say 'think' because all of a sudden I can't move any of them any more. But there's no sort of confirmation that it's finished.

The order I have is...

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
2 2 2(green) 5(green) 5
5(yellow) 6(red) 6(red) 6 2
2(yellow) 2(red) 5(red) 5(orange) 9(orange)
4(grey) 4(grey) 4 7(orange) 7(orange)
7(grey) 7(grey) 3 3 X

Obviously you have to make up the cirecles correctly too

Comment 30, Saturday, April 28th 2007 01:15:49 PM

Mio

:
I don't understand the explanation for the blue buttons. Please explain.

Comment 31, Saturday, April 28th 2007 01:17:45 PM

Archibald

:
Buttons:

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
You need to find the location of the button for the first symbol in the list. Keep clicking one of the same button until it clunks and the first symbol matches that button. Then choose another button and do the same thing. If you get a symbol you alrady have the button for at the atrt of the list then click its button. Keep going and wventually you will be able to clunk all 8 in order.
.

Anyone any ideas on the glowing hexagons? I thought maybe you had to turn red only one of each symbol from left to right, but I can't find a path for that.

Comment 33, Saturday, April 28th 2007 01:31:32 PM

Mio

:
Thanks Archibald, done the blue button puzzle.

Comment 34, Saturday, April 28th 2007 01:37:09 PM

still unsure if I have the numbers puzzle correct!

Comment 35, Saturday, April 28th 2007 01:42:14 PM

Mio

:
Jazz - I've done a spoiler for the number puzzle. I'm guessing that when it doesn't allow you to move any bits of paper, it is correct. If you can still move them, it is not correct.

Comment 36, Saturday, April 28th 2007 01:46:13 PM

Jazz

:
Mio yep have just followed your spoiler, but I can still move the numbers!

Comment 37, Saturday, April 28th 2007 01:49:35 PM

thanks Moi sorted it!

HINT: (click box to highlight/fade)
Each piece when turns affects certain sections. It's a fancy lights out puzzle. You're trying to brighten each section of the puzzle

Comment 45, Saturday, April 28th 2007 02:18:05 PM

Archibald

:
LINES AND DOTS THING:

HINT: (click box to highlight/fade)
I think you need to turn all the lights on. This is the combination
.

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
First four in left hand column, 1st, 3rd, 4th and 6th in second
.

It doesn't seem to do anything though

Comment 46, Saturday, April 28th 2007 02:18:48 PM

Jazz

:
yep Archie! followed your lead and like you, it doesn't seem to do anything, and when I return to it, lights are out!

On the hexagon puzzle, two of the symbols match the symbols I was given after completing buttons and the clock.

now you have completely stumped me Archie! given 2 symbols? don't think I was and I completed those puzzles!
