MotherLoad
MotherLoad is not my normal kind of game, very arcadey, if that's a word (it is now, if it wasn't), but I gave it a try and it's very addicting. You control a caterpillar-tracked, helicopter-esque, drilling machine, the idea being to mine as many minerals as possible to earn money to upgrade your machine, mining more and more minerals as you go. It sounds a bit dumb, but I found it hard to tear myself away to post it in the end. Don't worry I saved my game - I'll go back to it later [subbed by nikkiv].

despite the fact that the basic elements of this game are greed, greed and greed - i found this game highly entertaining and believe it or not - very stimulating!! I do believe that 3D Motherload 2 would be a brilliant idea incorporating other planets as well - anyway got to get back to my game - lol professor be

If you really want to know what happens (HUGE SPOILER)

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
Once you reach a certain level, i think around either 3000 or 5000 you hit the bottom. At the far right of the screen, there is an opening, and then you get to go meet the person who kept telling you to turn back. The devil! Then you get to battle him, and hopefully win. Be sure to have alot of explosives and health

A good strategy is to make a mining shaft 2 spaces wide that starts by the fuel station and go really deep. When you are low on fuel, you fly up the shaft. This helps you get further down to better minerals with less fuel, thus getting you money and upgrading you faster. Earthquakes can make this a bit hard.

Can someone explain what the engine and radiator do?

Mike, here's your answer (I think):

HINT: (click box to highlight/fade)

The engine helps your speed when you're just traveling left and right through open space, like on the surface. It might also play a part later on (hint, hint). The radiator isn't really needed until you get deep, like beyond 3000 ft, cuz it helps blow away liquid hot "magma."

Hope that helped!

Meepo,
HINT: (click box to highlight/fade)
once you get down to about 5,000 feet, whenever you dig through dirt there's a chance that you'll hit an exploding gas pocket instead. (You're warned about that in the transmission that also gives you your last $ bonus.) The gas pockets cause the green explosions, and you take a certain amount of hull damage. Before you go that deep, I recommend buying the strongest hull and lots and lots of repair nanites.

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
You can also avoid those gas pockets altogether by using explosives to clear dirt and only drilling through gems and ore, which never contain gas pockets. Unfortunately, it's impossible to tell in advance which dirt squares contain a gas pocket, but if you have the best hull and it's in relatively good shape, you'll survive long enough to make repairs.
