Somnium Orbis
If you like your point'n'click games with a large side order of weirdness then Somnium Orbis is for you. As you scratch your head and say "what the... ?" though, there are some great graphics to look at, and sound is none too bad either [subbed by Supernova].

Short game, but still amusing.

Long time player but first time commenting. Interesting, um, game. Spot on about the great graphics and sound, but I found it utterly whack, unsettling, and way too short ;)

For the second screen (not a solution)

HINT: (click box to highlight/fade)
When you sit the mouse over the lighter area, the black hole goes away temporarily. It always comes back and doesn't seem to buy you any time, though. I did notice that while destroying some of the shadows
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
(hold the left mouse button down over the shadow)
, small orbs of light would go toward the black hole, making it disappear, also.

I don't know if that means you have to do them in order - I haven't found a pattern, yet. I have a feeling there is more to it than just dying on the second screen, though.

Also, in looking for further information about the second scene, I ran across a comment from one of the game's creators here.:

Thanks guys for all this feedback. My friend Nathan and I actually heard about the Rockstar Games Upload contest about 2 weeks before its deadline. So what was uploaded was the best we could get up before that time.

We have actually created a website (http://www.somniumorbis.com) for this project as we do have extensive plans for working on it. We have already recorded the audio for five scenes and have plans to go back and revisit the issues your members have brought up in this message board (since these were complaints we had ourselves).

Thanks again for the positive feedback. Nate and I are trying to find some interesting locations to take some surreal pics for our next scenes and then screw with them some more in Photoshop.

We do hope to make this a little "smarter" as we have already planned several things we could do, but just did not have the time to get them into this contest.

Thanks again for the kind words.

- Peter Schmalfeldt

It was posted today. Thought you would like to hear there will be more in the future. I suppose we should keep our eyes on this one. (Though, I would love to hear if anyone got a different ending for the second scene other than being engulfed by the black hole. I'm not a fan of losing.) :)

I like this one......... looking forward to the updated version....

I also never got rid of all the shadows, but then again, didn't say you had to, just did you want to replay it....

Lets hope we don't have to wait too long for the extended version

Hopefully more games will come out now with realistic graphics etc as does enhance the enjoyment!

I found that on the 2nd bit the blackness dosn't apear until your hover your cursor over the people. If you move it away it goes. For every person you get rid of, the light grows bigger. If you don't do anything beads of light will drift to the light

What the hells a hint?

Comment 35, Sunday, May 28th 2006 07:44:00 PM

:
D00d, a hint is something that helps you with the game, without spoiling it (that's what a spoiler is for). A hint would be, say, a tip to help you get past a particular level of a game. A spoiler would be a cheat allowing you to immediately skip the level without playing it.

well I found this in the second part:

Everyones right about clicking the shadows but if you hold click a shadow it gets sucked into the black hole, now hold click on the hole and it dissapears, vaporise another ghost and it will turn back the hole, click hold on the hole and only the pink cloud grows, but at a point you can't click away the hole anymore so ... :s haven't figured that out

Hello All,

Peter Schmalfeldt here. I have to admit this is great reading all of this stuff. When Nate and I made this game, we never thought about this aspect of it. I am so tempted to answer all your question, like is there only two levels, whats the deal with the zombie level etc... But that would ruin the fun now wouldn't it ;)

I do say that it has gotten Nate and I motivated to finish this thing. We have so much stuff thought of to do for it, its just finding to to actually do it.

Our complete "game" or what I would call "experience" since there is not much of a game to it, actually does have an overall connectivity to it. So what seems random right now is because we only completed about 1/10 of what we wanted before the contest deadline drew near.

So thank you all for your comments and complaints. I can agree with most of them.

Looking forward to seeing the next installment! :)

Great work Peter & Nate!

Holy CPU cycles Batman; all that processing in the first screen so you can sweep the leaves together against wind and gravity and the solution is just to wave the mouse about to blow out the candle? I was expecting something more like the leaves to self-assemble or something. Not much point in playing 10% of something.

That was actually kind of scary. The music was morbid and creepy and the zombies were very scary in that we can't really see all of them, but we know they're there sort of way. Great game, I would love to see more from it!
