Da Vinci Code Quest
The Da Vinci Code Quest began on April 17th (drat missed it, but *phew* - you can play catch up), and gives you a puzzle to solve every day for 24 days. If you solve all 24 puzzles correctly you have a chance of winning "untold riches" (tickets to preview screenings of the film would be my uncharitable guess). The two "puzzles" I've played so far have been simple, but quite nice, flash mini games. I'm not sure if things are going to get harder as time goes on. The best thing about the game, at least for g33ks like me, is that it integrates into your personalised google homepage, so I'll actually remember to play everyday. See the pic below [subbed by THC & sopdox].

Well, I live in Utah and my wife just called me to tell me a package with a cryptex just came in the mail. She said it is a substantial piece and looks very nice. I haven't received an email yet, but at least I know its coming.

I finished the 24th puzzle at 12 minutes after the hour. So, I'm sure that anyone at 12 minutes and under at least will be a finalist.

My wife tells me I have a cryptex in today's mail delivery! This is WAY better than a decoder ring! My 5-year old is gonna explode!

i havent gotten an e-mail or a cryptex yet..... but then again, my mail doesn't usually arrive for another hour or 2, so there's still hope....right? also, i thought the cryptex's weren't being shipped untill the 18th?

For those who recieved the cryptex, when you went to www.google.com/davincicode what did you see? For those who haven't received a cryptex, what did you see?

Rules state the item will be shipped for scheduled delivery before the 18th. Shipping 10,000 boxes may take more than one day to complete so if you dont get one today it is concevable that it may still arrive tomorrow

The final challenge begins at 11:00 a.m. EDT on Friday the 19th and all finalists will have 48 hours from then to begin and finish the five puzzles. The rules tell us that it doesn't matter when you begin the final challenge, so you could wait a day or so. What matters is how long it takes to finish once you clock in to begin.

The only real problem with this game is that the grand prize winner will get $198,000 in prizes but no cash, so they will have to come up with anywhere from $35,000 to $50,000 out of their own pocket to pay the IRS the taxes that will be due. Then there may be state taxes as well, depending on where you live. Ooof! Not a very nice prospect. Who can afford to win????

For those of you who have received a cryptex, how was is shipped: USPS, FedEx, UPS? Yeah, I don't know how anyone can deal with the taxes on that. I know I couldn't!

I was reading that people had received theirs I thought they were joking. Most of these contests tell you that you won and will recieve your prize in 6 to 8 weeks! Kudos to Tristar and Google!!!

Got my Cryptex. Didn't get an email but I got it open. The code was Paril (I was trying to spell paris since it's five letter and came up alot during the guest but it definately opened for me using paril...paris doesn't work) Anyone know that the word means?

I got my cryptex in the mail a little while ago. Given the high number of people reporting receiving them and when you go to the website it says congratulations IF you are a finalist, I am thinking that they sent out a lot more than 10,000 of them and only 10,000 of us will be finalists. I finished around 1:10PM on the 10th or whatever the last day of new puzzles was. Congrats to everyone who has gotten one! Has ANYONE gotten and e-mail from Sony or Google today about the contest?

one more thing....they cheaped out on the crytex....you only have to get the last two letter right to open it so paril might not be "right".....all you need is the IL at the end.

How high do you think the bidding will go for these on Ebay? Just curious since one is already up to $61.00 at this point.

I'm very mad.... I got an email last week to confirm my registration and saying congratulations for completing all 24 puzzles. Now, today when I opened my Google page I got this message: "The Quest has come to an end. You completed 23 of the 24 puzzles." How can that be? Has this happen to anyone else? I'm very sad! I completed the last puzzle 3 minutes after it was release.... I was positive that I made into the 10,000 finalist..... :-(

I got mine. Has anyone had a password other than "GRAIL"? It seems to me that while all the tumblers are grooved, the first few letters don't interact with the locking mechanism on the "key" piece.

Hi!! I've never posted a message here, although many an evening has been spent lurking. But I've finally found a reason to post!!! Opened today's mail to receive.......A CRYPTEX!!!!!!!!!!!! >Insert golden shaft of sunlight from heaven, a la Terry Gilliam, and oohs and ahhhhs here< Not the cheap piece of plastic I was expecting either! Die-cast and very well made. No matter what, this cryptex is worth all the time and trouble on the quest, and is dedicated to Graeme and everybody else who gave a hint, a clue or a nudge (nudge, nudge, say no more) in the right direction!! THANK YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Silas, i agree with Cheryl, i got a cryptex and all i got in the message inside was go to the website www.google/davincicode which then says congratulations IF you're a finalist, so what does that mean?
I'm starting to think Vicki is right, that more than 10,000 people got the cryptex, but only the finalist got another message on the website. So Silas, what EXACTLY does your message say??

Well has any one gotten a E-mail yet? I havent gotten one but didnt get a cryptex either. Good luck to all who did make the 10,000!! If you win the big prize remember all of us while youre traveling around!!

I think it says" if ur a finalist "because others can happen into the site like the people ur talking about that are going on but didn't win...inside my cryptex it says congradulations ...and the web site says you are earl so....as far as I know they said only 10000 and they can't change that by laws governing sweepstakes but then again who knows....hehe
