Escape To Obion 3
The offices of the Obion team must be a hectic whirl of point'n'click activity. Escape To Obion 3 is out now - that's 3 games in 3 weeks! And it's a cracker. Even trickier than the previous two. Can we expect episode 4 next week? Surely not? [subbed by brian, sopdox, miri, angela & mystery]

Hey all, first time posting in LL. Nice to meet you all.

Now, on to business...

I'm in and fairly confused, but I think I'm headed the right direction on one of the puzzles. Let me know what you think.

I'm in the lab and working on the puzzle all the way to the right.

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)

There are two sets of symbols: the four "basic elements" and more complex elements. As you'll recall, the four "basic elements" are earth, water, air and fire (the fifth element is love, in case you couldn't figure that out from the movie). Each of the four basic elements is represented by one of four triangle. They are:

Down-Strike = Earth (amber)
Down = Water (green)
Up-Strike = Air (blue)
Up = Fire (red)

I counted eighteen complex elements. I'm not going to try to describe their symbols (I'll let you handle that), but I will list their names and atomic weights.

Atomic Weight / Name as it appears in the game
05 Boron
12 Magnesium
14 Silicon
15 Phosphorus
16 Sulphur
19 Potassium
26 Iron Mars
29 Copper Venus
30 Zinc
33 Arsenic
47 Silver Moon
50 Tin Jupiter
51 Antimony
78 Platinum
79 Gold Sun
80 Mercury Mercury
82 Lead Saturn
83 Bismuth

So here's my hypothesis:
The complex element symbols on the four cards tell you which numbers to use and the basic elements tell you how to manipulate them (i.e. add, subtract, multiply, divide). My hypothesis states that if you manipulate the numbers correctly, the result will be the number listed in the gray box on the right-hand side.

What still puzzles me is why the planet names are included, but this might just be a red herring.

So, does it seem like I'm on the right track with this?

Oops, quick correction:

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
I said atomic weight and two things are wrong with that. First, I should have said atomic mass, not atomic weight. Second, that's actually not the number I was using (although perhaps I should give it a shot). The numbers in the list in my previous post are the atomic numbers, not atomic masses, of the elements.

I haven't thought about this stuff since the 8th grade. -Þ

Oh god atomix masses. Now that brings back memories of confusion/elation.

that's atomic*

This may come in useful at some point:

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
Astraea ("the star-maiden") is the daughter of Zeus and Themis. She was, as was her mother, a goddess of justice. During the Golden Age, when the gods dwelled among mankind, she lived on the earth. When evil and wickedness increased its grip on humanity, the gods abandoned the habitations of mankind. Astraea was the last to leave and took up her abode among the stars where she was transformed into the constellation Virgo.

Just a quick hint for those who cannot even get to the map and into the castle because the slider puzzle is too hard :

not sure of this helps, but

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
Every planet has an element associated in it. If you look in the book with the man, he has certain elements associated with certain body parts, each of which correspond to a planet. Then on the wooden man, he has different symbols in the same place as the drawn man, giving you different symbols for those elemetns. These newsymbols are the same ones in the puzzle with the rotating planet system.

Don't forget about the map at the beginning that you had to crack, it has 3 symbols on it as well which correspond to the rotating symbols puzzle.

However, these smarties have thought ahead. It takes you to a screen saying 'you lose' after you enter it. Hehehe.

The real password is:

The end.

notice that the symbols on the wooden man are in the same places as the symbols for the drawn man. Now take a look at the rotating puzzle system. they are the same symbols as the wooden man

This is how far i've got on the rotating puzzle;

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
Move the permanent one to between 12 o'clock and 1 o'clock - just like on the map. Remove all symbols except the two that relate to the other two on the map (compare the map, the drawing of the man and the little model of the man to work this out). Set these two spinning and let it run for a while, when they both line up with the grey one - there's the customary 'ding' and a symbol which seems to relate to the moon appears. A new book is accesible also

But then what?

Comment 29, Monday, February 6th 2006 01:01:00 PM

Thomas J. Brown

:
Gez, that seems to be working, except

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
What is number one? Does it simply not exist?

So, following Gez's logic:

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
In the card puzzle, when the basic elements are water and fire, the sum of the value of the symbols is the number in the gray box. This is not the case if either earth or air is present (it also seems not to be the case if only earth and air are present).

Nos-Nothing,

It think by solving the puzzle you can look at another book.

I don't know what to do with what's inside

Are you sure that you have them numbered correctly?

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)

Earth and Air don't make a difference for me.

For Window:

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
By clicking through the "cards", you can associate Earth, Air, Water & Fire to each of the symbols. Some will end up with only one element. Some will end up with two. At the window, enter the element that corresponds to each row. (i.e. if gold is associated with only fire, enter it in the row where fire is the only one not crossed out.) Hope that makes sense. There might be an easier way than clicking through the cards, but that worked for me. It opened the last book. Still haven't completed the game though.

Comment 36, Tuesday, February 7th 2006 02:43:00 AM

SC

:
To Get Password:

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
Using the symbols in the books with the handwritten notes, you can associate letters & numbers.

In the book with the sun symbol, use the first letter of the first word from each line in the "notes".
In the book with the moon symbol, use the first letter of the second word in each line of the "to do" list.
In the book with the mercury symbol, use the first letter of the third word in each line that has a third word in the "duty sheet".

All of the letters will line up with the symbols, which you should have in number order from 1-18 from the window puzzle. Then using the number code that you got from the book with the map symbol, you can decode the password. NOTE: One of my symbols ended up with 2 letter possibilities, but it was pretty easy to figure out what it should be.

In the 4th book :
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
take the 4th letter, except now the first symbol of a row goes with the first word, the second symbol with the 2nd word (and once the third with the 3rd word)
