Escape From Rhetundo Island
Escape From Rhetundo Island is a nice, quirky, point'n'click game which you should be able to picture from Lynn's succinct description:

"From the same guy that did Hapland"

That's all you need to know I believe [subbed by lynn].

A few hints that I think are important for game play:

HINT: (click box to highlight/fade)
Moving platforms need to be raised and lowered or pushed side-to-side by actually moving them - nothing moves automatically in this game. In simpler terms, if you want to move an elevator up and down, you have to drag it up and down with the mouse.

HINT: (click box to highlight/fade)
Whenever you collect the boom boxes (or whatever those things that look like radios are), a "special move" is placed in one of the boxes on the right. When you click on that "special move" and then click on the character, that character will perform said move. Be careful - some special moves can result in catastrophy, especially when you realize you just blew up your guy on his last life...

HINT: (click box to highlight/fade)
Timing is EVERYTHING in this game. The guy who created it left nothing to chance - if you don't have the timing down exactly, you may end up like me, sitting there trying to throw the computer monitor out the window and stopping yourself only by dint of exactly how much of your paycheck will end up going toward purchasing a new one...

And now for the spoilers to get you past Levels 1 through 4.

Level 1 - Idiot that I am, I figured it out on the first shot. Um, nothing to see here, move along.

Level 2

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
A bomb comes down and makes a crater. Meanwhile, your little dude gets a boom box. Said boom box gives him a "special jump move." Click on the "special move" box (looks like a little guy jumping, kind of) and wait until he has passed the crater. Once past the crater, click on the little guy. He'll fly with the latest of fleas... with plates full of cheese... with the birds and the bees... he won't miss the other side. On to level 3!

Level 3

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
This level is mostly timing - wait until the, um... rotating arms are about to come level with the ground. Press the stop light and it becomes a go light. Here's your first experience with the evil that is the elevator. You have to time when you raise the elevator up so that he doesn't fall off when you think he's firmly on it, and you don't want him to end up bumping into the cliff side because he'll turn around and keep walking right off into oblivion, assuring you that he is the stupidest creature since the guy who thought up nylons for women.

Level 4

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
Allow me to stretch my vocabulary to the limit as I am suffering from the effects of NyQuil whilst I play. Stickman picks up a boom box and proceeds to attempt suicide. You have to catch him with the annoying little sliding platform that you have to control yourself. Once Stickman is safely on land, examine (rather rapidly) the landscape. There are two lovely lumps of white embedded in the land chunk, both of which have some weird grey markings on them. The lump on the left is a circular lump. The lump on the right has a dip in the center. If you wait until Stickman steps into that dip and click on Left Lump, Right Lump will plupm up and spring Stickman into the stratosphere, landing him safely on the cliff that you seek to reach.

Unfortunately, Level 5 is where I die the most frequently. I promised myself that I shall not waste a paycheck on a new monitor, so therefore I am going to replay the levels I know until the NyQuil wears off enough for me to get my butt through level 5.

to comment a little on screen 5, i must say that the point isnt hard, but it really is damn hard to make it fast enough on a track-pad

Rt

:
i think ill be nice because im too slow and i dont have a mouse:

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
for level 5 u have to be very quick:
first lower the platform,
then when the guy is just on top the "pole or whatever" click the opposite one to raise it,
just when he gets on the platform raise it and if hes returning u can use the item u got to turn him around,
then let him fall to the ground and before the cliff use the item and voila!!!

Comment 18, Tuesday, October 11th 2005 06:38:00 AM

Rt

:
to make things easier, use q,w,a,s,z,x to select the items the boxes are for the same order as ur keyboard.
goodnight i hope i come back and see someone beat this

spoiler level 6

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
explode bottom man with explosive special item. Drop box item on upper man. Click on house. Click white circle thing to jump your man up. He will then fall down the hole to level 7. Level 7 is all about timing and really quickly using that switcheroo item.

Wish there was some way of restarting a level if you get stuck without using F5 to refresh

anyway, spoiler for level 8

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
as soon as man gets box to drop, drop it between him and scissors. When scissors have dropped off end, and face blows bubble gum platform, use your jump to get over box.

Is there a trick to getting him on the ledge? Everytime I raise him on Level 5 he smashes into to it turns around and falls, Only 1 time he walked on the ledge. I try my turn around thing but no time to click him by the time I click that. What is the timing once he is on that lil pole thing to move him up?

GETTING FRUSTRATED

Part I is harder than part II, by then you'll get the hang of it. But it is very challenging. So good luck everyone

BTW: if anybody needs help, just ask ME (because I BEAT THE GAME ^^)

Thanks Sweetcorn will try, Most of these games it is just figuring out what to do, but damn this 1 takes the cake, It is very irritating you have to start from level 1 when you die out.

Comment 43, Tuesday, October 11th 2005 05:27:00 PM

Blackwing

:
OK, now I am on level 10. I get that I have to turn him around, and then make him jump to that raised platform. It gives me this blue tooth looking thing. What is that? A parachute?

Comment 44, Tuesday, October 11th 2005 05:44:00 PM

Blackwing

:
Never mind, I just didn't click on it. It's a bomb. Drop it so he falls into the hole and not the gear.

Now I am on level 11, with these orange spikes. Aargh.

Comment 45, Tuesday, October 11th 2005 06:03:00 PM

Blackwing

:
What on earth am I supposed to do with these orange spikes on Level 11? I have three boxes and a turnaround thing.

Comment 46, Tuesday, October 11th 2005 06:08:00 PM

Blackwing

:
Never Mind, I think I get it, I just have to move the spikes with the guy. Too bad I'm out of lives and have to start ALL OVER FROM THE BEGINNING.

Comment 47, Tuesday, October 11th 2005 06:10:00 PM

Blackwing

:
Can you tell I'm bored at work? Any tips on level 12? I wait until the guy lands on the platform, then click the right arrow. I get him to move onto the second platform, but when I click the right arrow the platform moves too fast and he falls off.

Comment 48, Tuesday, October 11th 2005 06:24:00 PM

Kelly

:
I dont get level 6, it says drop box btwn man and scissors HOW? it is past the scissors HHEEEELLLLPPPP PPPLLLLLZZZZ

This game has taken up most of my day and is making me NUTS

Thanks all

Comment 49, Tuesday, October 11th 2005 05:58:00 PM

Blackwing

:
For level 6, simply drop the blue box before the scissors comes out. Click on the blue box in your menu. You see the box on the screen at the top. Click on the box to drop it. The scissors hit the box, turn around and disappear. Then use the jump feature to jump your man over the blue box.
