Don't Stay Dead
With a combination of games and tunes, Don't Stay Dead is perfect Friday fodder, even if it is strictly old skool. We're talking 8-bit baby! Cursor keys to move, space bar to shoot (trickyifyouhaveasticky spacekey), kill the girls in red, avoid the girls in white, and visit all the pallbearers. I got to the driving level which seemed to be impossible to get passed [subbed by justme].

by the way, it would be "past" not "passed"... unless thats what you MEANT, of course.

by the way, do you get an email for every post/comment someone puts up? becaues that jsut sucks. bigtime. thats like a thousand emials a minute. ninety percent of which are FIRST/IMAN@$$HOLE!!!

It is passed rather than past - I just double checked.

I don't get an email each time, that would be a nightmare - I check the hot gossip to see what's going on.

Oh come on people, it's a My Chemical Romance game!

Although, it is from the Helena video. That's the only song of theirs that I like because it's great trying to copy the dance.

though since you've posted God Tower and Clever Waste of Time, Hot Gossip is much less useful

it WAS interesting to see the increase in postings on long-dormant sites after you got PC Today's Site of the Day -- i'm assuming that was causal.

though there's also the phenomenon of people actually trolling through two- and three-year-old threads to find un-commented-on places to post "first!" disGUSTing! beyond pathetic! flesh-eating zombie brain-rotting awfulness!

ok. completed it.

1st phase you get the red and white ladies. Kill all the red ones and get the pall bearers.

2nd phase you get wheels. avoid the creatures crossing the road. The other cars shoot at you. you can push them off the road or shoot them.

3rd phase you are in a maze, you can only see the exits around you.. the rest of the screen is blank. Watch out for the white girls - when you find them you will be close to the exit. You have 60 seconds... good luck!

Thats it ...

I actually think that this game is called "Helena" based on the song, but I'm not sure if it's the same song.

For the car bit just stay at the bottom and hit space, the undertakers can only hurt u by firing missiles, not hitting u pysically, so stay at the bottom and they wont have a chance to get u.

Comment 13, Saturday, September 3rd 2005 03:20:00 PM

:
oh, actually it IS "past" -- "passed" is the past tense of "pass."

Comment 14, Saturday, September 3rd 2005 07:14:00 PM

Beth

:
to set things straight on the past/passed issue- past is correct. It's an adverb-you're going beyond something else.

Comment 15, Saturday, September 3rd 2005 08:23:00 PM

Tafkam

:
though it would be correct to write, say, "i passed my exams." or "i got passed by the committee." i.e. they passed me.

Comment 16, Saturday, September 3rd 2005 09:14:00 PM

Sentinel

:
pass is to achieve a target (or go beyond it, or even to send an object), so in this case, the target is to beat the driving level.
So the object is to get passed it.

Past is a historical time reference.
So in the furture you might say:
"In the past I passed the driving level"
Or didnt - if you gave up lol

Comment 17, Saturday, September 3rd 2005 11:05:00 PM

Tafkam

:
no, pass is a verb, and you don't "get passed" something unless it's passing you. any more than you "get eaten" something, or "get written" something. you can "get eaten" BY something, or "get passed" BY someone -- but that's not what you're talking about here.
you can, as you write, say "i passed the driving level" -- but that's not the same as "it was impossible to get passed." if you want to use the verb "pass," you'd write "it was impossible to pass."
you get past something the same way you get up to it, or beyond it. and, as you write, "past" is ALSO a noun, "the past."

:
I minor in English. Tafkam and others are right. The correct use in Graeme's particular sentence would be "past". Going in a different direction: I love, love, looove MCR! I might go see them in concert in two weeks! Yay! Ermm...*clears throat*...have a nice day everyone.

Comment 19, Saturday, September 3rd 2005 11:36:00 PM

Tafkam

:
hi Rae!
great, maybe you can tell me -- is "past" as used in this context an adverb, or a preposition? "I went past" seems like it modifies the verb, which would make it an adverb -- but then what would be an example of its use as a preposition? "his leg extended past the end of the bed?"

obviously i'm NOT an English minor...

It's an adverb. If you're unsure go to dictionary.com.

Comment 22, Monday, September 5th 2005 07:56:00 AM

Tafkam

:
the problem is, it's a prepostion also. (AND an adjective, AND a noun.) and the example of its use as a preposition in my dictionary ("we drove past the station") isn't clearly different from an adverb, as far as i can tell.

Comment 23, Monday, September 5th 2005 05:49:00 PM

Tia

:
MY GOODNESS! Should we just leave it at...Graeme's use of 'past' in correct?

Sadly, at school, we never really got taught adverbs, verbs etc...in detail, but I did english literature in uni and I 'passed' it fine!:)

Comment 24, Monday, September 5th 2005 07:47:00 PM

Tia

:
scrap that ^.

Comment 25, Monday, September 5th 2005 07:53:00 PM

Tia

:
What I MEANT to say was, lets just say Graeme's use of 'passed' is right...I think both would be acceptable actually.

Comment 26, Monday, September 5th 2005 07:56:00 PM

Tafkam

:
Tia, how on EARTH did you pass (no need for quotation marks, it is a verb) Eng Lit if you think that grammar is something you decide by voting on it?

Comment 27, Monday, September 5th 2005 08:40:00 PM

Tia

:
Who said ANYTHING about voting, I just said leave it the way Graeme said it, no need for voting. English Lit is nothing to do with voting. I need quotation marks because I am quoting Graeme...thanks.

Comment 29, Monday, September 5th 2005 08:44:00 PM

Tia

:
Just as (as you say) I cant judge grammer on voting, YOU cannot judge whether I passed my english literature degree on a comment on a games website!

Ok, I think thats out of my system:)

Comment 30, Monday, September 5th 2005 09:01:00 PM

Tafkam

:
ooh, Tia, sorry -- i was teasing. if i really thought you really thought people got to vote on grammar, i'd shake my head but i wouldn't post a comment to you about it.
no, i was joking because it SOUNDED like you were advocating voting.
and obviously we leave it the way Graeme wrote it -- it's his site, plus there's no way to change it without his help (unless we hack the code, which i have no idea how to even begin doing).
as long as we recognise that leaving it that way doesn't make it CORRECT. that would be voting.

Comment 31, Monday, September 5th 2005 09:05:00 PM

Tia

:
SO SORRY Tafkam.

I got all heated up...cuz you were teasing, I though you were serious!

Im so ashamed lol:).

Comment 32, Monday, September 5th 2005 09:08:00 PM

Tafkam

:
aww don't be ashamed, it happens to me all the time because
1) i have a quirky and ironic sense of humour, and
2) i hate smiley-faces
so no-one ever knows when i'm joking (and i'm always surprised they take me seriously).
but you're absolutely right,, anyone who judges someone else based on what they type into a comments box on a website is judging a book by its cover, when the cover is glimpsed in the dark from across the street.
(not that that stops me from deciding that everyone who disagrees with me or says anything i don't like must be a flaming idiot lol.)

Comment 33, Monday, September 5th 2005 09:15:00 PM

Tia

:
yea it was a silly disagreement on my part...I was writing a loada...umm... bo**ocks!... lol, of course anyone who disagrees with you is an idiot, thats only natural!

P.S. Nice analogy about the book in the dark thing!

Oh, to pass the driving level: You can still shoot as a car-coffin. Would that be carffin? Anyway, space bar works to shoot the other cars and creatures.
